Tom is currently serving as your State Representative for the 16th Middlesex District which includes Lowell and Chelmsford. Throughout his career at the State House Tom has served on various committees such as Banks and Banking, Revenue, Healthcare, Energy, Public Safety and Chair of the House Committee on Bills in the Third Reading. He currently is serving as Vice-Chair of Election Laws and is a committee member on Community Development & Small Business as well as Steering, Policy & Scheduling.
As your State Representative, Tom has had the opportunity to work on projects that have been significant in the revitalization of the Greater Lowell Area. The most recent is his efforts in keeping the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles in Lowell. He has been a partner on projects such as the Acre Plan, the Lawrence Mills Project, Bellegarde Boat House/Boat Ramp and the Student Recreational Center at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Tom was also involved in the expansion of Route 3.
Current projects include the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail, J.A.M. and a new judicial center. Tom continues to be a strong advocate for sound barriers and mental health parity.
During the 2009-2010 legislative session, Tom filed a wide range of bills to assist the citizens of Chelmsford, Lowell, and the entire Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Current legislation includes revising and improving the State’s Prescription Monitoring Program. Tom is working to eliminate the diversion of prescription drugs specifically opioids. Another piece of legislation is the expanding on the definition of how a sex offender “lures” or solicits a child. Tom is now moving forward with a new piece of legislation that would make a police chase a felony. Tom continues to work with the House Committees on Education and Ways & Means to elevate Local Aid and Chapter 70 funding to the communities he represents.
On a community level Tom is currently serving as the Chair of the Merrimack Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau. Tom also runs two charitable fundraisers per year. The Turkey Dinner Basket is held in November and the Centralville Baseball League and Pawtucketville Youth Organization was just held in the Spring and raised $10,000.
Additionally, Tom is a Mass Licensed Realtor and Auctioneer. Tom is a life-long resident of and Lowell and resides in Centralville with his wife Joane and daughters Abby and Lilly.
